A wall-flow filter is a porous medium — a ceramic honeycomb (cordierite or silicon carbide) or a sintered-metal element where the duty calls for a tougher, readily regenerable substrate — whose channels are alternately plugged at each end, so exhaust has no path that bypasses the medium: it is forced through the porous walls, and the soot is left behind. A clean wall captures particles deep in its pore structure; as soot builds, the surface cake itself becomes the filter and efficiency rises. The captured carbon is then oxidised back to CO₂: passively when the exhaust runs hot enough, actively when the duty cycle doesn’t deliver it.
Built To Your Specification
Soot control is not a bolt-on. The filter, its regeneration strategy, the back-pressure budget and the interaction with any downstream SCR all have to be resolved together against the engine’s real duty, and standby, low-load diesels are where that judgement counts most.
We take the engine data, the real duty cycle (especially low-load and standby running), the fuel and oil specification, and the particulate limit, whether the Stage V particle-number limit or a national soot-filter mandate such as Germany’s 44. BImSchV.
Engineers size the wall-flow filter and choose a regeneration strategy (passive where the exhaust runs hot enough, active where it doesn’t) and resolve the interaction with any downstream SCR.
The filter housing (with provision for ash cleaning and, where required, an upstream oxidation catalyst) is fabricated and quality-checked at our own facility.
Systems are installed and commissioned with the working pressure drop verified across the regeneration cycle, and documentation handed over on completion.
