Blowers and fans produce two kinds of noise: broadband flow noise across the spectrum, and discrete tones at the blade- or lobe-passing frequency and its harmonics. An absorptive section (flow passages lined with acoustic fill behind perforated facings) soaks up the broadband and higher-frequency content, while reactive chambers tuned to the passing frequencies attenuate the low-frequency tones a purely absorptive design would miss. The split between the two is set by the machine’s measured spectrum, and flow areas are sized so the silencer never regenerates noise of its own.
Built To Your Specification
A blower silencer is matched to the machine and its duty. There is no catalogue part number. We size each one from the measured or predicted spectrum and the pressure-loss budget.
We take the blower or fan type and duty, the measured or predicted octave-band spectrum including the blade- or lobe-passing tones, the flow and temperature, and the noise target at its governing location.
Engineers split the attenuation between absorptive treatment and tuned reactive chambers, holding face velocities low enough that the silencer’s own flow noise never sets the floor under the achievable level, within the machine’s allowable pressure loss.
The silencer is fabricated and quality-checked at our own facility, in materials matched to the gas stream, with intake or discharge connections to suit the installation.
Units are installed and verified against the noise target, with documentation handed over on completion.
