A diffuser replaces a single uncontrolled expansion with a structured one: the flow passes through one or more perforated stages, each taking a share of the total pressure drop, so no stage sees an extreme pressure ratio and the exit velocity ends up far below that of a raw vent. Dividing the flow also shifts jet noise upward in frequency (away from the far-carrying low frequencies and into the range absorptive packing handles best) while breaking up the core jet so it never impinges directly on the silencer internals downstream.
Built To Your Specification
The diffuser deliberately sits where the flow is most violent, taking the abuse so the silencer, stack and surroundings don’t. Six process inputs define the design, and each one moves the answer.
We take the upstream pressure and temperature, the fluid and its condition (clean gas, superheated steam or wet steam with droplets) and the governing mass-flow case: emergency depressuring, start-up venting or a stuck-open valve.
Engineers divide the pressure drop across perforated stages so no stage sees an extreme ratio, sizing the flow area to control exit velocity within the back-pressure budget the upstream relief or control valve can accept.
The diffuser (standalone or as the first stage inside a vent silencer) is fabricated at our own facility in materials and to a fabrication quality matched to the erosion duty, with inspection access designed in.
Units are installed, with drainage provisions in steam service, and handed over with documentation on completion.

Velocity
A drop too large to manage in one step divided across perforated stages, so the exit velocity ends up far below that of a raw vent, the quantity the diffuser exists to control.
Acoustic
Many small jets move the peak frequency of jet noise upward, away from the far-carrying low frequencies and into the range where atmospheric absorption and silencer packing work best.
Erosion
Sitting at the harshest point of the vent, the diffuser is conservatively sized for velocity and erosion and built in robust, inspectable materials, including low-temperature toughness where rapid depressuring chills the hardware.
Back-pressure
Flow resistance installed downstream of a safety, blowdown or control valve is designed inside the back-pressure budget that protective capacity leaves, never the other way around.
